2020 Isn’t a Write Off

I am based in Victoria. So current news has let us know that things are changing again – and remote schooling is about to recommence for us regional areas. Now I work 4 days a week and am a mother to 3 young children full time, so things are about to get busier 😉
Sure, I haven’t visited my parents in months and there are a lot of things I cannot do currently, but there is much I can do and continue to do!

 

  1. I finished CampNano, penning 40,000+ words and finishing Free Rein #10.
  2. My kids are healthy and happy and we have a big back yard they can enjoy time in as we have beautiful winter weather currently.
  3. We are in a position to homeschool and my husband and I get to be home with our little ones.

2020 Isn’t a Write Off

Although 2020 has been very unexpected, it has not been a write off and I will continue to write and publish (as time permits!). And on that note… remember my goal to publish a book a month for 2020?

Well, I finished Free Rein #10 early into CampNano and was super excited! Then my laptop died. So the next Free Rein book is complete but stuck on my hard drive for now. When possible I will retrieve the file and publish the novel but I am accepting that my July release may occur in August or even September… 🙂

Although I work hard to stick to goals that I have set, I have learnt to let this one go.  It’s not the end of the world that I didn’t get a book published in July.  It is enough that I completed a novel over this time and made great progress on another of my novels.  No, 2020 isn’t a write off at all.



Read and Write

I have come to the conclusion recently that I read like I write.  Perhaps, you do too?  I have a lot of books on the go currently.  Some of these I read a little a day, such as my bible and any devotional/s I may be reading.  Others, I pick up and get started and then find that another book draws my attention, or something else needs to be read for reviewing and so those that I have started, wait a little longer to be finished.  And then there are some that I pick up and devour in a matter of days.  And it seems, that I write like this, too! Read and write.

Free Rein #10 to be titled Selah had been barely started at the end of June.  Then the last week leading up to Camp Nano, it became two thirds written.  Then 8 days into a month of planned dedicated writing, and it was finished!  I love it when that happens.  It took me ten years to complete my debut novel Horse Country and two weeks to write the first two books in the Free Rein series.  But some books are like that!

I have many, many books on the go at one time and it’s always nice to bring one to completion!  That said, I have admitted before that I love starting a new book as this is often when I get the most written in one session.

Read and Write

So I’ve finished Free Rein #10 which was my goal for this month and I have progressed a little with the Chemistry of Horses as I also had planned.  But a new novel idea formed and I have penned 2500 words for this whilst also adding to E and E, a follow on story from my Christian Horse Romance B and B.

So to continue in line with my plan to release a book a month in 2020, stay tuned!  The plan is to publish Selah this month and hopefully have something else to bring to the public for August.  I’m just not sure if that’ll be the Chemistry of Horses, E and E or a new novel that is yet waiting to be written… 😀

A June Release and Free ARCs

Well we’re very close to the end of June and I am pleased to say that I have a June release!  (Remember my goal to release one book a month in 2020?) Refuge (Christian Horse Romance) is available on pre-order (affiliate link) and due to be released tomorrow, June 29. Phew! It’s so pleasing to get this one out to the public for the month of June 🙂

A June Release and Free Advanced Reader Copies

Now something else that I’m also giving a try from June is Booksprout. The Chemistry of Horses

I went to bed on the night of April 29, thinking that although I have plenty of stories in the works at the moment, I needed to have a burst of inspiration. This was necessary to belt out the 7,000+ words required to meet the 50,000 goal for Camp Nano.  Now I love writing books, but there’s really nothing like starting a new book.  And so I pondered a new romance for adults and what that story may look like… and an idea formed and I considered this as I retired for the evening.

Fast forward to April 30, the last day of Camp Nano. I had a couple of thousand words worth of writing. I had also come up with the title The Chemistry of Horses for this brand new book that I am working on.

So I didn’t hit 50,000 words for this year’s Camp Nano. But, I did finish two novellas and start a brand new book! So I am still deeming April a success for writing goals.

A New Book Each Month

Now for 2020, I have set myself a pretty hefty goal: to release a new book each month of the year.  Now this goal I wasn’t able to implement until February, but things are travelling pretty well so far:

Now I have two books to finish formatting and proofing for release in May and June. So things are still looking pretty promising for 2020. As always, stay tuned! Perhaps the Chemistry of Horses will take on a life of it’s own and also be able to be released in 2020 😉

Camp Nano in April a Success

I’m not much of an athlete, but it seems at the moment if I was a racehorse, I would be one of those that closes well in a race.  I have been taking part in Camp Nano this April as I have for the past couple of years.  And whatever project I may be working on, the aim has been to pen around 50,000 words for the month.

To do this, you need to write on average 1667 words a day.  Now I’ve not written every day of April and I have not averaged 1667 words a day – closer to 1444.  However, I have:

  • written in excess of 40,000 words
  • finished one half written novella
  • two thirds finished a second novella that I started writing in February

So I am going to declare Camp Nano in April a success this year.  But back to the racehorse analogy.

Today is April 29 so there is just over 24 hours left to complete CampNano.  My word count is at 40,198.  From April 17 – 24 I penned over 2,000 words for each of these days to break down my 10,000 word count shortfall to just over 3,000 words.  On April 26 I penned just over 3700 words.

And this is why I’m going to say that I may just be a late closer.  Although I know how much I need to do on average to complete a task – life gets in the way.  But it’s also possible to have days that are so much more than average when it comes to their productivity.  So wish me luck!  The 50k goal is not out of reach yet 😉
