Summer Reading Cavalcade in June

I’m pleased again to be taking part in the Summer Reading Program. It focuses on encouraging kids in the US to read over their summer break! But it also focuses specifically on horse books, which is one of my favourite topics! One of my books will be available for children who take part in the June 1 – September program and complete it! And I’m super excited for *three* of my children to take part this year. Last year two took part and completed the reading program and were so very pleased to receive some horse books by Susan Stafford-Pooley and Kerri Lukasavitz!

Free Rein #22 News

Speaking of middle grade books, I have the twenty second book in my Free Rein series – to be titled Identity – just over half written! I hope to complete it in May. So stay tuned for release news!

I am also pleased to have finalised books 19 – 21 in paperback form over the month of May. So now all 21 books are available for purchase in both Kindle and paperback formats 🙂 And for those who make use of Kindle Unlimited, you can read any of them for free this way!

Lucky Break (The Bridge Next Door #3) Complete!

Life has been very, very hectic of late. I feel that I have been pushing myself to do so much and things have been piling up. I am so, so pleased to have reached my CampNano goal in July of writing 30,000 words!

It was close, but God gave me some incredible ideas as I continued to ponder the current stories I am working on.

I am thinking about writing a heap of short stories, some for children and some for adults, looking at ‘A Day in the Life’. The adult focused short stories will be looking at various horse careers and what they may look like on a typical day. So I am working on a day in the life of a farrier, stud hand, strapper, etc.

For the younger readers, I am writing each story from the horse’s perspective. I have completed one focused on a rocking horse, riding school pony, brumby and carousel horse so far! It is my hope that these short stories will:
  • engage young readers,
  • teach them about different horses
  • and help them to improve their reading as they learn to read independently
I am excited about this new series.

Writing Success over CampNano

I started CampNano focused on these short stories, but soon found myself continuing a Christian Horse Romance that I am titling Clear as Day. It’s been exciting to see it progress! This story is around three quarters done.

On top of this, I was also able to finish the third book in my new young adult series, the Bridge Next Door. I am currently editing this and hope to release it on Amazon this month.

July has been a successful writing month. I find I am a little apathetic at the moment and am having to push myself to do something.

I have the best intentions during the day, but as opportunity comes at night to move forward with my finished works, I really don’t feel like doing much! But, this blog post in itself will help to hold me accountable as I’ve published this goal of getting Lucky Break (The Bridge Next Door #3) up on Amazon this month.

July Means CampNano

It is a very, very cold night here at home as I’m writing this. I absolutely love August in North East Victoria, but we’ve got to get through July first! And June is just giving us a taste of the colder weather to come.

One thing I really look forward to each July is the opportunity to take part in CampNano. Thirty one days to focus on writing and to be accountable for writing each day is a great thing to be able to take part in.

I’ve been re-reading the first two books in my young adult series, the Bridge Next Door, recently. I’m hoping to finish off the third book in the upcoming CampNano. But we’ll see!

Often my plans go by the wayside and a new story develops instead – not that I’m complaining! But it would be nice to continue on with this series and finalise another novel. It’s been a little while since I’ve been writing Jessica’s story, so I’m refreshing my memory of the first two books 😉

Whilst I am keen to continue my writing projects, I am also taking part in an American Kids Summer Reading Program that runs from June 1 to September 1.

Blessed to Write

Ride and Tie (Free Rein #19) has been live on Amazon for two weeks and has received it’s first review. It’s lovely to get a five star review! And even nicer to read why someone enjoyed the book so much 🙂
My granddaughter and I absolutely love this series and anxiously await for the next one each time we’ve finished a book. There is tons of information about horses as well as a fun story about 5 friends. We started reading them when my granddaughter was 11, which was the age of the kids. They are now 14 and so is she. It is unusual to find this kind of a book – inspiring, informational, and fun. I highly recommend it.”
For a series that I wrote the first two books in a week and then considered maybe writing 12 overall, it is lovely to have reached the release of book number 19. Here’s what it’s about:
Jacqui is surprised to learn about a different horse riding event at this month’s riding club. The Ride and Tie event involves two people and one horse. They make up a team of three, rotating between riding the horse and running to cover a long distance.

The riders are introduced to this new event at Riding Club and told they will be partnered up to compete against each other. Who will she be paired with? And whose horse should they ride? With this last-minute declaration, which team will win?”

I read this review last night and put together an Instagram post to share! As I was looking for an Instagram template on Canva, I came across a simple image that had Blessed… something, on it and a nice blue paint background. And I suddenly thought. I’m blessed to write.

I am so very blessed on account of many things! But I love that around my family life, my part time job and other activities, I can write in the evenings.

I love to write, love sharing about horses, love education and sharing my faith! When I can combine all of those things into a story, well I truly love that! An added bonus, is that the stories I create, can appeal to others. Definitely, blessed to write.

Whilst we are heading toward winter here in Australia, things are heating up on the other side of the world!

Last year I took part in the Summer Horse Book Reading Program. Whilst it’s still very much horse focused, this year it’s known as the Kids Summer Reading program.

This program and competition runs from June 1 to September 1. I love that it focuses on reading, but especially that it promotes the reading of horse books. On top of this, if young readers complete the reading log, they could win a new book!

3. Read and complete the logbook activities, marking them off as completed.
