1 John 4: 4 – 5 – ‘You are from God, little children, and have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world’s perspective and the world ‘listens to them.’
‘If my life is fruitless, it doesn’t matter who praises me, and if my life is fruitful, it doesn’t matter who criticizes me.’ – John Bunyan
There are many times in life when you need to have enough confidence in what you’re doing to not be swayed by general opinion. Perhaps you have a desire to be an influential Wealthy Christian – one who can give generously to many causes in the name of Christ. But to be able to do this, you first need to generate wealth.
As you work to save more or establish an idea that you know has the potential to generate income, there will be people who frown upon what you do. Maybe it’s a negative comment or perhaps they’re frustrated by your lack of wanting to spend – like going out for a meal with friends on a regular basis.
Often what we desire to save for or spend our money on isn’t understood by other people. This doesn’t matter. What does matter is being a good steward of what God’s blessed us with.
Likewise, you may be passionate about a hobby or business idea that you feel God has placed on your heart. But it’s slow to get started – even slow to bring in money after you’ve invested countless hours. Don’t be swayed by negative comments, opinions or a lack of initial results. Focus on the fact that God has given you an idea and if you are diligent with it, it will see a return.
Remember Abraham and Sarah – their ability to have a child waited a long time!
It is important to keep things in perspective. People won’t always understand our wants or plans – but God does. It’s important to keep your focus on Him and living a fruitful life for Christ. Things may not always go to plan, but you can know with certainty that He’s got it all under control. Keep it in perspective.
It is my prayer for you:
- That you will not be swayed by negative comments or opinions and that you will surround yourself with positive, encouraging people.
- That you will focus on what God’s word says about you and your abilities, especially in tough times.
- That you will be careful about whom you share your financial goals with – only share them with people who will encourage you and hold you accountable to achieving them.
Today’s prayer:
Lord I thank you that you have everything in control. Even when my plans seem unattainable, I know that you have it all sorted out. Help me to keep things in perspective – to keep my focus on You, not on my circumstances that can change daily.
Actionable ideas:
Don’t shy away from second hand. Many things you need don’t have to be brand new. You can save a lot of money if you’re willing to purchase something previously loved by another: a fridge, car, lounge suite, etc.
