I’m taking part in the next blog hop at Equus Education. This one is focused on travel and horses. The question: if you could travel anywhere in the world for something horse related, where would it be and what would you do?

I found out years ago that there were programs in place to head over to Mongolia and see the last truly wild horse the Przewalski’s horse in reserves. You can observe them and help to conserve the area in which they live. It looks like it would be an incredible and unique experience!

Do you have horse related goals that you work towards? I have quite a few horse writing projects that I am excited about and working towards finishing. I love that a goal is something you work towards with an end in mind.

My current goals are to finish:

• Writing Free Rein book six and design its book cover
• Writing B and B and design its book cover
• Formatting my 52 Steps to Kick Start Your Equine Career and providing it free on Equus Blog

I plan to finish these all this year and aim to work on each project each week. This way I can feel that I am moving forward with each one. It’s a nice feeling!

Six year old Suzy Jenkins is desperate to get her first pony. In this novella (mini story), it focuses on her certainty that she will get her pony from Santa at Christmas. With incredible expectation, Suzy prepares a yard and shed to keep the pony in.

Having read that ponies can live on water and grass only, she works hard to collect grass to store for its arrival. A nearby homeless man is curious about the girl’s actions and surprised when Suzy confides what she is doing and why.

As Suzy develops a friendship with him, her kindness to him is noticed by others and results in her receiving an incredible gift.

Suitability – This is delightful tale for young readers with a theme of kindness throughout.

There is a blog hop happening over at Equus Education in relation to different equine careers.  I thought I’d take part!

It sure is! The majority of my sales are done through Kindle, Amazon and my advertising is done through this website http://www.freereinseries.com/
d. Do you need a qualification to do your job?
Not to be an author, no. You do need to know your topic and have a good grasp of the language you’re writing in, though.
e. What’s the best thing about your job?
I love writing about horses for children that are at an age where they enjoy reading and learning. I try to make my books educational as well as entertaining.

So I started a Latest Book Excerpt: Blog Hop over at Horse Country and have recently started working on book 6 in the Free Rein series! So, I felt this might be a perfect opportunity to share a little bit of what I’ve already written :).

“Now onto business! You may have noticed that I don’t have Banjo here to ride today,” Kara said, earning a few nods from the girls.

Banjo was her gelding that she often brought along to the riding club for her lessons. It was either him or her new mare, Prairie.

“Banjo isn’t well and I thought today would be a perfect opportunity for us to discuss the vital signs of horses and how we can use them to give us an idea about our horses’ health. So! Who knows what the five main vital signs are?”

Kate took in the droopy ears of Captain and a runny nose. The fluid wasn’t clear as it should be, but instead had a whitish green colouring to it.

Being cautious, she grabbed a thermometre to check his temperature. Standing facing his tail, she lifted Captain’s tail a little and placed the thermometre in his rectum after putting some lubricating jelly on it. She was sure to place the thermometre against the side of his rectal wall, rather than straight into the bottom of the horse. If she did this, the thermometre might be placed in a piece of manure and the temperature reading wouldn’t give her the best indication of Captain’s body temperature.

With it placed on the side in his rear end, she let it sit for a minute until it beeped. Because it was a digital thermometre, the temperature appeared in numbers on a little screen. Kate frowned as she took in the figure of 38.8 degrees Celcius.

Captain had a temperature. A horse’s normal temperature range lay at 37.5 degrees, plus or minus a degree. Because Captain’s temperature was over 38.5 degrees, Kate knew that something was wrong in his system. This as well as his droopy looking ears and runny nose told her that he had something that made him feel unwell – and something that could affect the other horses on the property…
