It’s November! This month is one that I love during the year. Spring is here in Australia and gardens are beautiful with flowers everywhere. (I have many bulbs that I don’t have to do anything with and they dutifully pop up each year and bring glorious colour!). We have the Melbourne Cup the first Tuesday in November and of course when I was working on a thoroughbred stud, we were in full swing for the breeding season. Foals were everywhere!

I’m in a different season of my life now with three young children and a part time job teaching equine studies. And November still has much appeal. Now that I am aware of NaNoWriMo, I look forward to this for my writing ambitions each year!

I started in 2017 and was rapt to pen a novella in the first 17 days. Camp Nano followed up in July of this year and I ambitiously set out to write 90,000 words and pen 3 stories in a trilogy. I achieved my word writing goal and got 2.5 stories done, finishing the third a couple of months later. Success!

So this November I am again setting an audacious goal. I will plan to pen around 90,000 words once more. This will be comprised of the 8th book in the Free Rein series, the 8th book in the Thoroughbred Breeders series and a standalone Christian romance novel that features horses. Stay tuned!

I’ve dutifully gotten some work related homework out of the day so that I can focus as much of my attention on writing over November as possible. Of course, this will be around family duties, work days and my other writing / website ventures. Wish me luck!

I attend a Christian writers group locally every other month. It’s lovely to meet with others who have a love for writing as well as the Christian faith. We meet together, hear a podcast relating to writing or publishing and then discuss it before sharing 500 words of our own recent works.

There is then the opportunity to highlight parts of the piece that could be improved or to comment on certain aspects that we really liked. What I love is that when the group nears the end, we pray for each other – and our writing goals. There’s something about such a group that is uplifting and keeps you accountable to write!

The most recent get together involved listening to a podcast from a pastor who aims to be a published writer. One comment that struck me was about writing being worship.

If you attend church, you may be aware of the generalisation of doing some praise songs first (the upbeat ones) and then the worship songs later (contemplative, slower songs). In all honesty, music is one form of worship. Anything that we do for God and to glorify Him is an aspect of worship. And I hope that is the case with my writing!

I write because I love to create stories. But as they’re read, I hope they are doing many things:

• educating about horses
• educating about the Christian faith
• helping others to be challenged to grow closer to God or start a relationship with him
• entertaining

Although I hadn’t really thought that way before, I recognise that my writing is a form of worship and I hope to keep it that way!  Although horses are fairly consistent in my writings, I have found my recent trilogy (that is to be released October 18!) focuses more on the Christian faith and less on horses.

Hi everyone! I have recently designed the covers for the three books in the Insular trilogy. The books are to be titled Unchurched, Blemished and Insular. The idea with the book covers explores how one of the main characters – Jude – sees the rich and their local church.

It seems to Jude that high society – the insular crowd – want to keep their wealth within their local church and not out benefiting the community. As Jude explores and explains this concept to a character in the book, he likens it to a cross within a bubble.

The church is supposed to be far reaching but the local rich community keep their wealth to themselves. In this regard, Jude feels they’re not acting as a church should.

So their faith is contained within the bubble of their local church. As the trilogy continues, some members of the insular community learn about the importance of breaking out of this bubble to reach a lost and hurting community. This is what I have tried to portray in the covers for these three books. What do you think?

Insular Trilogy Covers

I actually finished designing the book covers before I finished the third book!  After discussing the concept with my husband, he made some suggestions regarding the covers.  I was able to implement these and am now happy with how they look – and of course the way they link to the story.

I was further rapt to pen (type!) the last words for Insular on September 28th.  The first two books have already been edited and beta read.  So now it’s onto completing number three and scheduling the books for their release on Amazon!  Stay tuned and if you want to hear release details first, be sure to sign up to my author news 🙂
